    My first blog...

    Jackson and Maddox

Recently two Government officials passed away in Georgia. The ex-mayor Maynard Jackson and former Governor Lester Maddox. So the city mourns the loss of one great man. Found in the headlines recounting the career of Maddox, you'd think he was buried in his Klan robe. Yet reading the headlines about Jackson you'd think he is being given his wings right now. It is my opinion that both these men did incredible harm to the state of Georgia during the time I remember.

Maddox, in fact, did become infamous for not closing a restaurant rather than serving blacks to comply with a Federal law. His supporters would have you believe this issue is about states rights. Well this year if I don't pay my Federal taxes in the name of states rights will that make my actions righteous? Maddox's funeral included a procession that closed almost every major highway in Atlanta at some point (during Friday rush hour). What kind of crap is that? He can't just have a normal escort like anyone else? Screwing taxpayers from the grave... gotta love it.

Now Maynard Jackson and his tacit support that boosted Bill Campbell into office of Mayor, did more harm to this state than Sherman burning Atlanta. And while Young's family is understandably struck with grief and proud of a long legacy, I do not think it is appropriate that we name a wing of the airport after him or anyone else, beside a corporate sponsor. Our airport still stinks of corruption, and the men responsible are still in charge.

Now I am not going to be giving the eulogy at either funeral, but hasn't the pampering of Politicians gotten a little out of hand? These guys make a lot of money, and don't really pay for anything. Now they deserve the same reverence as in any death, but don't forget the big picture before you vote next election. These SOB's consistently vote themselves pay raises during a recession, and raising taxes (in Atlanta by 51%).

    On the lighter side...

Have any of you every tried to get a Bran muffin around here, w/out raisins? It is nearly impossible. Am I the only one who doesn't like raisins? Are there less people that want a plain bran muffin than an orange flavored muffin, because there was no shortage of those. Finally I ended up buying Martha White bran muffin mix and making a dozen tasty bran muffins... cost $2.00.
Have any of you tried to get a little oatmeal in the morning? Again, nearly impossible. Everywhere has grits around here. The two foods are nothing alike. It is like asking for V8 and getting tomato juice. What does it take to teach people the difference b/t tomato juice and vegtable juice? I am convinced that 90% of the world has no working taste buds left.
